An interesting hotel with a good restaurant can lift a street, a block, or an entire destination. That is exactly what has happened in the Swiss town of Thun, where Spedition Hotel & Restaurant has provided a shot of energy for a town where people previously mostly passed through.

Stylt was tasked with transforming this former cheese warehouse and logistics hub into a small and personal boutique hotel by property owner Credit Suisse together with Swiss hoteliers Manfred Weilguni and Daniel Mani. The brief was to create a hotel "where time would stop", a place that was all about relaxing and enjoying good food and drink and time with friends and family - in short, a place where you could enjoy life.

The hotel is filled with surprises, and every room has its own character. Inspired by the story of the former spediteurs who left the rat race and started exploring life beyond the straight line between A and B, the 15 guestrooms feature collections of all sorts of interesting things, from umbrella handles and antique cobbler’s lasts to wine labels and model railway cars. The result is far from the traditional proper, wholesome Swiss style. Not least the little library tucked away on the third floor, with its hand-picked selection of Parisian books.

Run by Swiss chef and TV celeb Adrian Tschantz, Spedition’s restaurant is the vibrant heart of the hotel. Serving nothing but plates of taste, farm-to-table deliciousness rocks at Spedition. A fabulously casual eatery spans the ground floor and spills over into an open veranda. This foodie hub follows the mantra of being local, simple, good and tasty - a popular gastro joint for both locals and visitors alike.
