Historically utilized solely by the navy, industry, and harbor traffic for centuries, Paper Islandhas transformed into a vibrant urban district, boasting pioneering architecture, a water culture centre, a food hall, housing, and cultural hotspots. Embracing the 25hours mantra of “you know one, you know none,” the new hotel concept has been meticulously crafted by Stylt, injecting a fresh flavor into the city’s hotel scene.
Given that both Paper Island and the building are newly constructed, Stylt aimed for the hotel’s interiors to serve as a striking juxtaposition. The concept and design narrative revolves around the enduring yearning to return to the simple yet exhilarating island life, to embrace an urban dropout lifestyle, and to rekindle the ways of the island and its rugged characters and personalities. Beautiful and whimsical, brimming with reminiscences of the sea and nature, it showcases local craftsmanship and ingenuity with a playful do-it-yourself attitude.
The interior design aligns seamlessly with the overarching commitment to sustainability and eco-friendliness. Upcycling and recycling are integral components of the design ethos, extending from furniture to signage and artwork. Here, innovation thrives as new concepts and creations emerge from reclaimed materials and discarded objects, mirroring the resourcefulness practiced on the island.
As always, Stylt’s focus remains on the guest experience. The entire hotel is thoughtfully designed to evoke the journey from the bustling city to the tranquil island, encompassing its various phases. From the moment guests arrive at the quaint port to strolling through the charming village streets, and finally stepping into the embrace of the cherished old summer house, every aspect of the experience is carefully crafted.
